The Phonovisual Method is the hallmark of The Primary Day School. It is a unique phonics-based system for the teaching of reading, writing and spelling. The Method supplements the traditional sight method of teaching reading by giving the student skills to attack new words and recognize quickly those already learned.

Phonovisual is taught daily as a separate subject because it influences the entire language arts program. Beginning in Pre-Kindergarten and continuing through Second Grade, children learn consonant and vowel sounds through stories, poems, games and songs.
